National Sports Awards – Dhyan Chand, Rajiv Gandhi, Dronacharya
The National Sports Awards include Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and Dhyanchand Award, which are presented by the President of India on 29 August every year at Rashtrapati Bhavan. National Sports Day is celebrated every year on 29 August, the birthday of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand.
Facts of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award:
Let us tell you that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was started in 1991-92.
Chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand was the first player to receive this award.
The winner of Khel Ratna award gets a prize of Rs 7.5 lakh. This award is given annually to those sportspersons who have brought glory to the country in international competitions.
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award can be given to a maximum of three persons in a year. But, this is only the second time that the names of 4 athletes have been recommended for the award. Earlier in 2016, shuttler PV Sindhu, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, shooter Jitu Rai, and wrestler Sakshi Malik were given the award.
What is Arjuna Award?
Arjuna Award is an award which is mainly given to sportspersons. Apart from this, along with this award, a cash amount of five lakh rupees is also given to the players as a prize, along with a bronze statue of Arjuna and a citation is also given to the players who become the winners.
Who is given the Arjuna Award?
Arjuna Award is given to the winning sportspersons who have won the National Games. The players who perform very well in the National Games, and Arjuna Award is given to honor that player for that sport. Since the introduction of this award, many players have been honored with the award. All the players awarded with this award are winners of national games.
Facts of Arjuna Award
In 1961 – 19 sportspersons were honored with the Arjuna Award.
In 1962 – 9 players received this award and after that Arjuna Award was given to 7-7 players for three years.
In 1965- Arjuna Award was presented to the Everest winning team.
About 15 sportspersons are honored with this award every year.
Apart from this, for the first time only, a total of 19 players were given this award in 2010.
What is Dronacharya Award?
Dronacharya Award is given to honor the players who win in a national game or in the games played for the country, because Dronacharya Award is given to the sports coach i.e. in the field of sports. Is. Under the Dronacharya Award, a statue of Guru Dronacharya, certificate, traditional dress and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh are also given.
Who is given the Dronacharya Award?
Players who register their victories in big matches are honored with this Dronacharya Award, which was instituted in the year 1985. The award is also known as Drona, a character from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata of ancient India. He also taught war to Kauravas and Pandas.

Earlier this award was given to Bhalchandra Bhaskar Bhagwat (Wrestling), Om Prakash Bhardwaj (Boxing), and O M. Nambiar (Athletics), all of whom were honored with this award in 1985.
