History of International Yoga Day
World Yoga Day was started on 27 September 2014 inside the UN under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. PM Modi told how yoga keeps the human body healthy. He told about the advantages of youth and the positive consequences it will have on their lives. On 11 December 2014, Ashok Mukherjee prepared the draft of World Yoga Day. Which was supported by a lot of members and they included 177 members. First World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2021.
#2015 International Yoga Day
First Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2015. This Yoga Day was celebrated under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at Rajpath Nagar, in the capital of India, New Delhi. A total of 35,985 people participated in this. In the first World Yoga Day, 21 asanas were performed in which the time was for 35 minutes.
#2016 International Yoga Day
The second World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21 June 2016 in Chandigarh, the capital of the Indian state of Punjab and Haryana. And it was named The National Event of Mass Yoga Demonstration.
#2017 International Yoga Day
In 2017, the third World Yoga Day was celebrated which was celebrated in the city of Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, in which about 51,000 people participated. In 2017, World Yoga Day theme kept was named Yoga for Health. Apart from India, it was organized in many countries like Japan, China, Ireland, Greek, etc.
#2018 International Yoga Day
In 2018 World Yoga Day was celebrated in Dehradun. An estimated 50,000 volunteers took part in this. Its theme was Yoga for Peace. Apart from this, it also celebrated in Rajasthan’s city Kota, which also made a Guinness World Record.
#2019 International Yoga Day
The fifth World Yoga Day was celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm, it was celebrated in many cities of India. Also it was celebrated in other countries as well. Its theme for the fifth Yoga Day was Yoga for the Heart.
#2020 International Yoga Day
In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, It was inspired to make World Yoga Day at home. No event of any kind was organized this year. This year the theme was Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family.
