Why Dhulhandi is Celebrated?
Dhulhandi is a festival of colors celebrated on the day after Holika Dahan, which signifies the victory of good over evil. There are many stories behind celebrating this day. We are going to introduce you to one of those popular stories.
According to mythology, there used to be a devil named Hiranyakashipu in ancient times. But Prahlada, an innocent cond and devotee of Lord Vishnu, was born in his palace. Prahlada always used to worship Lord Vishnu, which his father Hiran Kashyap did not like. For this reason, Hiran Kashyap hatched many conspiracies to kill his son Prahlad. But Hiran Kashyap could not succeed in anyone. Eventually, Hiran Kashyap entrusted this task to his sister Holika. Holika had a boon that she could not burn in any fire. For this reason, Holika sat her nephew Prahlad in the dock and sat on the pyre of fire. But the result was the opposite. Holika was burnt but Prahlad did not burn. It represents the victory of good over evil. And that’s why Holi of colors is played the next day, which is also called Dhulhandi.
