The findings of the study, published in the Journal of Neuro-Oncology, suggest that newborns to 3 months of age have half the survival rate of children aged 1 year to 19 years with brain tumors that are less than five years old.

As we all know cancer is a deadly disease, which can shorten the life of any person. Recently, researchers from the University of Colorado Cancer Center have detected brain tumors in the youngest patients. These patients, aged only from newborn to 3 months, have a survival rate of half that of children aged 1 year to 19 years with brain tumors that are less than five years old. The study’s findings have been published in the Journal of Neuro-Oncology.

Brain tumor in children 0 to 3 months old.

Adam Green, MD, associate professor of hematology-oncology at the CU School of Medicine, and his collaborators analyzed data from nearly 14,500 children, ages 0 to 19, who brain tumors. They have found the worst outcomes in the youngest patients.

What do researchers say?

Green said that brain tumors are not commonly found in newborns and children, but we have seen some cases in them. He said that we do not have the treatment options that are used on older children. We also know that newborns are not able to tell symptoms on their own like older children often can.

Green and his fellow researchers used data from the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Outcomes Program. The program, a National Cancer Registry, contains data on more than a quarter of the US population and reflects the country’s diversity.

Data is divided into three sections.

The researcher’s childhood brain tumorslinkedThe the first group was 0 to 3 months, the second was 3 to 6 months, and the third group was 6 to 12 months. They then combined data from these three groups with data from children aged 1 to 19 years.

Different types of brain tumors in newborn

Green said that they found that the type of brain tumor in newborns is slightly different than in older children, and this in itself is an important thing that we have come to know. The most important thing, which has come to the fore is that the chances of survival due to brain tumors in newborns are much less than that of older children, irrespective of the type of brain tumor.

Such is the survival rate.

The findings of the study show that children in the age group of 0 to 3 months have a survival rate of 30 to 35 percent for five years, while children in the age group of 1 to 19 years have a survival rate of 70 percent. it occurs. At the same time, the survival rate for five years in children of 3 to 6 months and 6 to 12 months is also much lower than that of older children.
